Small Business Encourages Sustainable Acts

The idea is simple. Small business will give you a discount if you demonstrate an act of sustainability and submit documented proof (i.e., a photo). What a great way to encourage greener behavior.

Rough Rider's Insight on Global Challenges - A century ahead of his time?

Do what you can, with what you have, where you're at.

Love this quote from Theodore Roosevelt. Being an avid outdoorsman he probably was in many a situation that required such an approach. Through my own limited ventures into the wilderness, I can certainly relate.

Sometimes our challenge seems so great that we turn away. Too scarey to face. Climate change. The ecomony. Social injustices. Let me just zone out is an easy answer in our media driven, omni techno present culture.

But, stuck in the middle of the wilderness with the only options being: stop (give up and die), or figure something out and just keep moving. There's really only one choice. Out there, you're at where you're at. So, you take inventory...round up what you can, and then figure out what you CAN do to keep it moving. In these instances, starting with a couple of small steps in needed. (ok, we're wet, cold and hungry, and lost, but let's just start a fire and warm up... go from there).

So. Let's get started on those challenging climbs. They are there waiting for us to mount. For now though, let's just keep our focus on the trail immediately ahead. One step. Then another.

Hang on to that Valentine - It's not just a box.

Why not give her "the same old box of chocolates" for Valentine's this year?
With the rage of everything new for the new year calming down, it's time to settle back into something familiar that feeds the soul.
Nineteen years ago next week, my love presented me with a box of See's Candy for our first Valentine.
This year it's my turn to get the box filled.
The first year, her valentine read:
I wanted to buy my Valentine a lovely velvet box so fine...

But what will he do when the confection’s all ate?
Add it to the trash pile so great!
Yet I still desired to give this token of my affections
Despite its disposability
Then I had an idea romantic and correct
Environmentally.
The start of a tradition… to keep the box out of the landfill situation
Next year, on this amorous occasion... my darling will reuse the container

To satisfy the romantic,
and chocolate
equation.

Rubik’s Cube: A solution to dyslexia and other life’s challenges?

According to William Wiessmann, “It's important to spend a lot of time thinking, to try to find connections and patterns. I believe that there are surprises around the corner.”

Another insight he shares in his essay, I Believe; Accomplishing Big Things In Small Pieces, “I discovered that just before it's solved, a problem can look like a mess, and then suddenly you can find the solution. I believe that progress comes in unexpected leaps.”

What I find remarkable is that William is dyslexic. From his perspective, learning to read was the equivaliant to a “normal person” solving the Rubik’s Cube. AND, he’s solved that now too!

Thank you WW for the inspiration!!
